Search in Kirtos Chapter 2: The Robbery

‘So, she fell into a trance after you payed them?’ Kamil looked at Porom from his plate.

After they walked through the streets of Olympica, the family entered a restaurant. Lotte told her father at length about her new experience with archery, and Porom about Karima and her friends.

After she reached the topic of paying for Solyana’s lesson, the mood darkens.

‘I hope we are not in danger...right?’ Kamil asked.

‘If so, miss Solyana will shoot the enemies down for sure!’ Lotte pretended to shoot with bow arrow.

Exactly, I’m pretty sure she will defend you.’ Porom smiled, ‘Do you like the Olympican kofta?’

‘I love the meatballs, and I have enough space for ice cream!’

Porom and Kamil both laughed, but after they look at each other, their faces look worried.

Did they entered into a new adventure?

It was like at night when Porom woke up from a loud bang.
Outside where a lot of voices where screaming at the same time. Porom got out of bed and look out of the window.
A lot of hoplites ran through the dark streets, it seems that they ran towards the palace.
‘What...what’s going on?’ Kamil had also woken up and stood next to Porom.
‘I don’t know, but something is going on at the palace.’ Porom said worried. She immediately thought about Karima and the others.
She walked upon the cupboard and took out her staff and her coat. She donned the coat over her nightgown.
‘What are you going to do?’ Kamil asked in shock as he saw his wife walked towards the door.
‘I am going to look what is happening in the city.’ Porom said, ‘Please stay here with the kids’.
She exited the hotel room and went down the stairs, Kamil went to the other room where Lotte and Alphonse were.
It was cold outside on the streets, Porom held her coat tighter around her body and quickly ran towards the palace.
She made sure didn’t got in the others way. The soldiers seemed to not stop for anybody, and Porom was scared that the men will trample her.
She finally reached the palace walls, behind there a battle was still going on.
Porom noticed that a lot of soldiers lay wounded on the ground, she cast Cure to heal their wounds. Gratefully the men jumped back up and resumed the battle.
A green flash appeared next to her, to Poroms shock two zombies rose up from the ground.
She was ready to cast Fire, when suddenly arrows came out of the sky. When they struck the zombies, their bodies combust into flames.
Porom looked around. Strange? She didn’t cast any spells and she wasn’t able to summon any arrows.
Suddenly, Solyana landed next to her with a thud. Porom jumped backwards with a shock. Where did the girl came from?
‘Are you alright? You seems to get surprised by those corpses, right?’
‘Oh, I’m fine.’ Porom said as casual as possible, she was more surprised by Solyana. The girl was only wearing her underwear and her quiver was tied behind her back.
‘Karima is also battling here somewhere.’ Solyana looks around her, ‘There is a necromancer around here, I suspect it is a old “friend” of us.’
Another flash appeared a bit further away, Solyana turned around and hasted in the direction it came from. Porom thought that Solyana was running extremely fast through the crowd.
She decided to follow her. Sometimes she Cured a wounded soldier or killed a zombie with her spells.
Porom suddenly bumped to a man with a black cape. He did ran in the opposite direction and had roughly pushed her.
‘Hey!’ Porom shouted angrily, ‘Watch where you going!’
‘Sorry miss, but I got what I’ve needed.’ From under the hood the man grinned at her. He was bald and had a pallid skin tone. His green eyes glowed ominously.
Porom stood up and wanted to say something, but someone stood right in front of her.
‘Give us the coin back, Fergus!’ Karima shouted. She only wore a nightgown, with a sword and a pink, heart-shaped shield, she stood in front of Porom.
‘Your palace guards needed to do their job better, princess.’ Fergus laughed, ‘They sure didn’t expected...this!’
The man raised his hand and about ten zombies appear from the ground, surrounding the two women. With a evil smile, Fergus stepped into the night.
‘I hope your spells are powerful, because we’ll need them.’ Karima looked back towards Porom.
‘I think so.’ Porom saw the zombies getting closer to them, ‘If you need a Fire or a Cure-spell, I will help you for sure.’
‘Cure will definitely hurt them.’ Karima focused on the group that was closest to her. She held her shield in front of her.
Out of the center of the shield, some vines with thorns were growing. They moved fast towards the zombie and wrapped around its body. The monster screamed out of pain when the thorns pierced through their rotten body.
Karima waved her arm, she trowed her tied up enemy away from her. With her vines she pushed over the other zombies.
Another zombie wanted to attack Porom from behind, but without hesitation she cast Cure at him.
When normally the wounds heal, they get even bigger at the enemy. The zombie fell apart with a screech.
With more space to move, Karima was able to fight the enemies with her sword. She slashed of the limbs from her attackers.
After Porom killed off more undead enemies with Cure, she saw some arrows flying straight up towards the sky.
Suddenly they changed direction. Porom ducked quickly and saw that the arrows pierced through the white, lifeless eyes of the zombies.
‘Ah, there you are guys!’ She heard Solyana from a distance. The young woman moved quickly through the crowd and stabbed a zombie with her arrow, that was still standing.
‘Solyana! It’s so good to see you.’ Karima was finished with her group and seems happy that the archer was okay.
‘Did you find the thief?’ Solyana asked, ‘I did saw the big guy running towards the docks, but the necromancer really held me up with his resurrecting spells.’
‘I did follow Fergus, until he bumped into her.’ Karima gestured towards Porom, ‘I tried to stop him, but he surrounded us with these walking corpses.
‘If we are quick, we can stop him. Let’s go towards the docks before it’s too late.’ Solyana suggested. ‘It is best to split up, so we have a better chance to find them.’
Let’s go right away! I’ll head up towards this way!’ Porom said, she began to ran towards the direction she pointed. Karima and Solyana both ran the other way.
She ran closer towards the docks where the action had moved to, maybe the thieves where close to her.
She noticed a large man with beige pants, a dirty black shirt, battered face and a golden earring standing with a large knife. He was standing in front of a woman with long black hair, and a pink nightgown. She was holding a great sword, Porom recognized the woman as Young-hee.
The young woman was ready to defend herself, the man seems not to be afraid of her and was about to stab her. Porom saw that his face had a lot of scars, and one of his eyelids was sewn up, it seems that his eye was missing. Porom was horrified by just looking at it.
‘Give us the coin back, Gregory. You’re not welcome here.’ Young-hee said calmly.
‘You have no say in that, you Hyangwangnese.’ Spoke the thief mockingly. With a wry smile he showed the coin, the Mysidian Goldling that Porom recognized.
‘I’m Yeonnamese, idiot! Now give me back what doesn’t belong to you!’ Young-hee seemed insulted and held her sword even more tight.
‘Give the coin back, it does not belong to you!’ Porom walked in front of Gregory and was ready to cast a spell.
For a moment the large man seems to taken aback, but then looks at Porom with disdain.
‘So you think you can interfere in our affairs, tourist? Two frail ladies won’t scare me.’
‘Maybe from ghosts then? Get the coin, Kyu!’ Young-hee nodded at Gregory.
Porom was shocked. A small ghost with blue eyes and a big mouth came out of the ground. It moved towards Gregory’s hand, but the big thief pulled the coin back.
The man seems to be distracted. With a scream Young-hee jumped at him with her sword, but quickly the man parried her attack.
Porom didn’t hesitate for a second and casted Fire on Gregory. The big guy cringed in pain and accidentally let go of the coin.
She tries to catch it, but to her dismay she saw that the coin kept floating in the air, by a green glow.
‘Enough fighting for today, Gregory. We have what we are looking for.’ Said a well known voice. To her horror she saw that the coin was floating towards Fergus.
‘Hope you enjoy this gals, good night.’
The necromancer raised his hand and another group of zombies rose from the ground.
The women saw the two thieves leave the scene with a grin on their faces.
‘Here we go again.’ Porom sighed, she casted Cure to the zombie that tried to bite her from behind.
Young-hee slayed the heads off the rotten bodies, and Kyu was rapidly flying through the walking corpses. The walking corpses fell apart after the little ghost had hit them many times.
After the two ladies fended off the attack, they looked at the sea. To their dismay the ship did left the harbors. Other Olympican ships where trying to go after the thieves, but thieves were long gone.
‘By the Goddess, we are too late.’ Porom heard behind her. Karima and Solyana ran towards the quay and looked angrily to the ship that moved further and further away from them.
‘Who were those, to be exactly? Why did they came here, just to steal the one coin?’ Porom didn’t understand the reason at all.
‘Those were Fergus and Gregory, two most important henchmen of The Dark Lord.’ Karima said, ‘They actually are from the Brittonian Empire, but they have converted themselfs to the God of Evil, Baïl.’
‘The Dark Lord? But Golbez has been defeated many years ago?’ Porom asked confused.
‘I never heard of that name before? Ah, I meant to say “our” Dark Lord, Sarumor.’ Karima shaked her head, ‘Fergus and Gregory, and of course Sarumor, had done some terrible things to our world. They did created some rough sandstorms in Tanïro, where travelers got killed, and the land became severely dry out. In Yeonnam, they caused people to defecting towards the other country, Hyangwang, and a few friends of us had been hypnotized to get taken away towards somewhere in Olympica. Two other friends of me, Akira and Zábor did left a few days ago to find a young woman that was kidnapped. They haven’t returned yet, but I don’t think they will return empty handed that easily.’
Porom listened to her story, but didn’t understand much of it. She was sure that she did found herself in a weird situation.
‘Oh...I feel something...’ Young-hee froze for a second and looked with a hazy expression towards the sea.
Was she in a trance again? Porom found the sudden changes of Young-hee scary.
‘What do you see?’ Solyana asked, she stood next to Young-hee and gazed out over the sea.
‘According to the spirit that lived on the island before...there is a dungeon...’ Young-hee spoke with a dreamy voice, ‘He said there is a portal...that leads to the world of the Eidolons...’
‘Eidolons? But people aren’t allowed to just summon them!’ Porom shouted in shock. She knew that only a Summoner, that was strong enough, was able to summon Eidolons. Rydia was one of them, she remembered.
At a very young age, Rydia was able to convince the strongest creatures to help her. Now that she is older, she must be even stronger than before.
‘I don’t what they are, but I am sure that Suromor will do everything to become even more powerful.’ Karima nodded.
‘Oh! Young-hee, you are right! I see a island in the distance!’ Solyana reacted surprised, ‘Do you know the name of the island, Karima?’
Porom looked over the see, but could see only darkness. But she felt that Solyana didn’t came up with weird stories, the archer looked again over the see and squinted her golden eyes again.
‘That must be Kirtos, if I am right.’ Karima said thoughtfully, ‘That is indeed a island that was inhabited before.’
‘Do you think we have to act fast?’ Solyana turned towards Karima.
‘I am going to arrange a ship and then we will go towards the island, this morning.’ Karima said, “I am going to talk to the harbor master, he will help us for sure.’
The ladies nodded. It seems that peace had returned to the streets, the soldiers led the people back to their houses.
Porom felt getting sleepy again, she yawned. She had to go back to Kamil and the kids. Lotte will be worried for sure.
‘You can go to sleep, Porom.’ Karima said with a smile, ‘Thank you for your help. We will take it from here, you can celebrate your holiday with the family.’
A thought occurred to her. She will not let it slide that easily, she felt that she had to fix the problem that she caused.
‘Wait, let me go with you!’ She shouted, ‘It is my fault that I give you my coin, and that you got robbed by the thieves!’
‘Oh, don’t feel guilty.’ Solyana raised her hand with a smile, ‘I was the one that wanted the gold piece, for my collection.’
‘But I was the one that pressured you to accept it.’ Porom kept going, ‘By not putting the coin in the jar, this whole situation wouldn’t happed.’
The ladies looked at each other, they nodded.
‘I think we could use a mage.’ Young-hee smiled, ‘You almost did took the coin back tough.’
‘Oh, and if you like. You can take your daughter with our adventure.’ Karima added, ‘I’m sure that she want to see more of our country, and some extra training won’t hurt.
‘She will love that!’ Porom looked grateful to the girls, ‘I will quickly head towards her and tell the story.’
‘Very well, I will arrange a ship and then we will see you tommorow.’ Karima gave her a thumbs up, ‘Make sure you are on time, because we will not wait for too long.’
‘I won’t let you wait, see you tomorrow!’ Porom said. She felt that she needed to sleep. She walked back through the streets and found the hotel again.
Porom walked upon the stairs and opened the door of the hotel room. Phew, Kamil, Lotte and Alphonse were still there.
Cam sat next to Lotte on the bed, and held Al close towards him. Lotte was anxiously shaking, but stopped when her mother entered the room.
‘Mommy, you are back!’ The little girl jumped out of bed and hugged her mother.
Porom looked through the children's bedroom and softly stroke her daughters hair. Kamil looked relieved that his wife had returned in one piece.
‘Ah Lotte, you know I will always return towards you?’ Porom rocked Lotte softly in her arms.
‘What did happen outside?’ Kamil asked.
Porom sighed, the sleepiness hit her very hard. She sat down on the bed, and started telling.

‘Sheesh, and that all because of the coin?’ Kamil asked with a look of disbelieve.
Porom nodded. Lotte layed back into her bed, but didn’t sleep. She was listening with full attention to the story.
‘So the incredible ladies did shoo away the thieves? That is awesome!’
‘Not entirely Lotte. They still took the coin with them.’ Porom stroke Lotte shoulder softly.
‘Do you still want to go with them?’ Kamil look at his wife, and hoped she answers with “no”.
‘Well...I did promised them, so I will go to the island.’ Porom yawned, ‘That means that you will look after Al, until we return.’
‘Beuh...so it will be a boring holiday!’ Lotte raised up from her bed and crossed angrily her arms.
‘Did I told daddy that he only will look after Al?’ Porom give her daughter a tired, but playful smile.
It took a moment before Lotte figured it out, then she jumped up and down on the bed.
‘Yaay, I am going on a adventure! And I am going to help Solyana with hunting thieves!’
‘You do that for sure. But now we are going to sleep, tomorrow it will be a long day.’ Porom carefully tucked her daughter in bed.
Kamil layed Alphonse back into the small bed and went back to his room. After Lotte closed her eyes, Porom went after him.
‘I’m so sorry Cam, that it had to turned out this way.’ She apologized .
‘Oh no, it is fine. You didn’t knew that the thieves were after the coin.’ Kamil tried not to sound worried.
But Porom did knew, she hoped that she and Lotte will return safely into the hotel.
The only thing she could do now is to sleep well, and prepare herself for the girls-adventure.
